Plates With Purpose

In Tisbury, Wiltshire

The exhibition will include three of my dishes.  Two ‘Oak Plates’ which are stoneware and hand thrown with a green glaze and illustration of an oak tree.   There is also one Bee Plate which is stoneware illustrated with bumble bees.

Works can be viewed and reserved online from Tuesday 20th February, although preference will be given to buyers in the building on the opening night.

The exhibition started with a quote in Gabrielle Rifkind’s book ‘The Fog of Peace’ which starts:

“We are most likely to understand more about the smell of politics and human behaviour if we start at the kitchen table, and, according to Hans Blix, the wise ex-head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, peaceful relations between states ‘can and must be practiced both at the conference table and the kitchen table”.

We hope that in supporting this exhibition you will not only find wonderful works of art to enjoy and also to use, but know that your purchase is supporting these charities in their progress of supporting others in areas of conflict.

Following our artwork auction in support of Ukraine two years ago, Messums Org have once again partnered with the two charities, David Nott Foundation and Hope and Homes for Children.  It is the hope that the motivations of ‘Plates with Purpose’, and the funding it will raise, will begin a discussion to develop a world where such charities are needed less and less in the sphere of conflict. We believe diplomacy and goodwill start at the kitchen table, with 40% of the sale price from the plates to be divided equally between the two charities.
